The Darkness Within 1

I come not to speak in hallowed terms and sinister diction. I’ve only come to open the door to a part of us that we seldom see. It is easy for everyone to look at his lecturer and scream, “that man deserves to die, he has slept with all the fine girls in my class” or about the president “that niggur deserves the electric chair, that is if there’s going to be electricity to power it, he has never earned a honest naira” or looking at your classmates you may be tempted to say, “this one deserves to be hanged, he has never done his assignment on time” or to that money loving lecturer whom you have decried death for since your first year.

The point is, I am not in any way throwing my weight behind all these conducts, but am asking, “can you say with all amount of verity that the darkness in these people is not also present in you?” Can I ask, “if you get into their shoes tomorrow, or later today, will you not act in the same manner?” The solution to our problems lies not in criticizing others, it lies in improving ourselves, and expunging the darkness within. When our lives are full of light, then we shall exude same to the world, the world will be a better place. It will do us no good to show forth an appearance of comeliness, yet in our innermost still live in debauchery. It will only be a matter of time before we are called upon to take some responsibilities…and it is at that point that champions become weaklings. Fight the battle of overcoming your own darkness, before you seek to fight others.
